About Us
Dad issues! I'm just a guy living with three beautiful women. My wife and two daughters (yep, TWO daughters). You could say that I suffer from a bit of the OCD. Now, I've never been medically diagnosed with OCD and I don't mean to make light of the condition, I'm just saying that if things around me are not in order I get nervous and anxious and can't concentrate 100%. So, let's just say I need things tidy as much and as often as possible.
Remember those two girls I mentioned earlier (we call them Abigail & Audrey). Whatever the opposite of OCD is.. well that’s them. They love showering in the master bathroom since the shower is larger and that is where mommy showers. Guess what else mommy does, she uses 2 towels! One for her body one for her head. So, it just makes sense to the girls (but not to dad) that they use 2 towels as well. All I see is SIX towels plus my own, 7 total, that need a place to live in our bathroom. Somewhere other than flung over the tub, the shower door, on the floor, or even stuffed over the single existing towel bar rod. Not only is this unsightly, it’s kind of gross. We already know that I don’t like things all over the place, but I also don’t like the idea of damp towels being rolled, folded and stuffed all over the bathroom.
That’s where TOOQS started (pronounced "took-s". I know, not one of our greatest creative moments, but we smashed together towels and hooks and made Tooqs). I thought the answer to my little problem was a simple trip to the hardware or big box store to grab something that didn’t come with a bunch of hardware, need to be screwed to the wall and something that didn’t need to take up a lot of space. It turned out to be not so simple. Four stores and a couple hours later, I returned home with a 3-foot piece of wire. I took the wire, cut it down and wrapped it around the existing towel bar rod fashioning a hook at the end. Voila! TOOQS was born. And, I wore my shoulder out patting myself on the back for a job well done.
Candidly, for a few weeks, I never thought about it again. Not until my wife kept asking me what I planned on doing with it. “Doing with it”, I said? I didn’t plan on doing anything. It was working as planned, and there weren’t towels flung all over the place. I wasn’t sure what she meant. She said that it was such a quick, easy and simple idea (she didn’t go to the 4 stores with me looking for a solution). And, that other people would probably like having the option as well. “Babe, that’s a good idea”! So, here we are.
After weeks, months and years of playing around with the idea, numerous designs, and prototypes, talking with anyone who would give me 5 minutes, we landed on a few simple, cool and what we think, elegant designs. And, we hope you think TOOQS is as big of a no-brainer as I did back when I headed out looking for a quick fix. Pretty simple idea, pretty simple device, pretty simple decision.
